課程概述

The aim of this course is to introduce current knowledge of developmental biology with the special emphasis on vertebrates and hence the students will learn how embryos of vertebrates develop from single cells to individuals that are composed of hundreds of different types of cells organizing in specific ways. This course will also introduce the philosophy, general strategies and technologies in studying the embryonic development so that students can comprehensively understand latest research articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

課程目標
Students are expected:
1. to be familiar with terminologies and their definitions,
2. to have general idea of the origins of each anatomical structure and the transitional phenomenon
3. to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms behind these phenomenon
4. to comprehend the philosophy, general strategies and basic techniques used in answering questions in developmental biology.
